Both the questions I am going to discuss were tough questions because they are not prominently in the news and most standard books do not cover them.

 

During exams, you need to remember that you need to focus on the easy and medium-level questions.

 

You need to control your temptation to mark all the questions.

 

How can we prepare for these sorts of topics?

 You should not aim because if you try to then you will never be able to finish the syllabus and revise it multiple times.

 

In India, what is the role of the Coal Controller’s Organization (CCO)?


1. CCO is the major source of Coal Statistics in the Government of India.

2. It monitors the progress of the development of Captive Coal/Lignite blocks.

 

3. It hears any objection to the Government’s notification relating to acquisition of coal-bearing areas.

Statement 4 is wrong: CCO does not ensure that coal mining companies deliver the coal to end users in the prescribed time.

 

Statement 3 is correct: CCO has the jurisdiction to hear any objections to the Central Government's Notification relating to the acquisition of coal-bearing land and to report to the Central Government.

Aim- To meet the coal requirement during First World War.

 

What is a Captive coal mine/ block?

 

Captive mines are the mines that are owned by companies.

 

The coal or mineral produced from these mines is for the exclusive use of the owner company of the mines.

 

The company cannot sell coal or mineral outside.

National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA)[Established in 1976],

 

is a premier Institute appointed as an apex body to support and guide the Government of India in its urban development plans.

 

 

Recently, World Economic Forum and NIUA signed an MoU to Collaborate on a jointly designed ‘Sustainable Cities India program’.

 

What is  ‘Sustainable Cities India program’.?

 

It  intends to enable cities to

decarbonise in a systematic and sustainable.

 

What will they do?

 

They will adapt the WEF City Sprint process and Toolbox of Solutions for decarbonization.

 

What is the City Sprint process?

 

It is a series of multi-sectoral, multi-stakeholder workshops involving

government, and

civil society leaders to enable decarbonization, especially through clean electrification and circularity[circular economy].

 

What is Toolbox of Solutions?

 

 It provides a digital platform containing over 200 examples of

clean electrification,

efficient and smart infrastructure best practices and

case studies across buildings, energy systems and mobility from over 110 cities around the world.
